Maharashtra’s Sikander lifts Bhatyari-Korga Dangal

, June 29: Wrestler Sikander Sheikh of Maharastra defeated Monu Dahia of Delhi to lift the 101st International Bhatyari-Korga Kesari Dangal which had participants from and Iran.

Winner Sikander Sheikh was awarded with handsome cash prize of Rs. 1,31,000 along with traditional ‘Gurj (Gadda) and Patta' by president J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association (JKISWA), Shiv Kumar Sharma, while runners-up Monu Dahia got Rs. 80,000.

Dangal was organised by Rural Development Forum in association with JKISWA under the overall supervision of Ashok Sawhney (president), Sat Paul Verma, Ram Paul Sharma, Lochan Singh, Om Parkash Verma, contractor Bablu, Som Dutt Sharma and Sahil Sharma.

In total, 70 renowned wrestlers of India participated in this one-day historic dangal which was witnessed by large gathering of nearly 20,000 people. Senior vice president of JKISWA and president Kreeda Bharati, J&K, Shiv Kumar Sharma was the chief guest.

In total, 35 wrestling bouts played in this dangal with organisers distributed an amount of Rs. 7,50,000 among contestants of in the shape of cash prizes.

Prominent among others present were Ram Paul Sharma, social activist and wrestling promoter, Sahil Sharma; Lochan Singh, Om Parkash Verma, Rumal Singh (Sarpanch), Balbir (Sarpanch), Anil Sharma (Sarpanch), Rajesh Sharma (Sarpanch) and Sub Inspector, Sanjeev Sharma.

The second main bout won by wrestler Hamid of Iran who defeated wrestler Benia Min of J&K Police. Winner Hamid awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 61,000, while runners-up, Benia Min got Rs. 40,000. Ishaq Ahmed (Lallu) defeated Shoota Khali of Chikka () bagged the third bout to take home a cash prize of Rs. 40,000, while runners-up Shoota Khali presented Rs. 30,000. The  fourth bout won by Nisar of Doda beating Taj of Punjab to become rich by Rs 30,000.

beat Titi of Chikka (Haryana); Gulshan of Sohanjana beat Robbin of

Mulapur (Chandigarh); Amana of Punjab beat Muneer Khan of Nagrota,

Jammu; Madan Singh of Reasi beat Asalam of Dhuleta (Punjab); Ajay Sharma

of Udhampur beat Kamal of Mulapur; Rajesh Sharma of J&K Police beat

Herjinder of Doom Charri (Punjab); Vishal of Delhi beat Ranjeet Singh of

J&K Police; Noor Shakir of Merrut (UP) beat Sahil of Reasi; Polu of

Ludhiana (Punjab) beat Bablu of Basantgarh of J&K Police. Bout played

between Vikas of Dera Baba Nanak and Laikat Ali of Bajrangi Akhara Jammu

ended in a draw.

Speaking on the occasion, Shiv Kumar Sharma thanked the participants and exhorted upon youth to take part in sports in a big way. “The Government of India is taking all out efforts to provide all basic sports facilities to the youth at

their door steps to promote sports among youth,” said Shiv Kumar.
