Roop Nagar desecration accused sent on 6 days remand

June 19:  The Duty Magistrate Jammu, Parveen Pandoh, has granted a six-day police remand to the accused who indulged in desecration of idols in the highly revered religious place at Roop Nagar.

The accused identified as Yasir Affaz, son of Kher Din of Doda, was arrested by the police and charged under sections 295, 295-A, 353 and 506 of RPC.

The police then produced him in the court, seeking his remand. After going through his CD file, the duty magistrate observed that the investigation was in its initial stage and grounds enumerated in the application seeking police remand were well founded. He then remanded him to police custody for a period of six days.

The court also informed the accused about his legal rights to consult and be defended by a lawyer of his own choice.

Also, the court assured him that in case he had no means to do so, it would be provided to him on government expenses and directed IO to expedite the investigation and get the accused medically examined under the rules.
