Jammu Temple Desecration Row: What really Happened?

:  An ancient temple situated in Roop Nagar area of Jammu was vandalized by one Yasir Alfaz on Tuesday which led to protests across the city.

Mobile internet services have been suspended in Jammu following protests in parts of the city.

What really happened?

Reportedly, one Yasir Alfaz youth entered Aap Shambhu Temple in Roop Nagar area of Janipur.

He broke the protective glass in front of the idols. He also misbehaved with women performing aarti as is captured by an installed security camera in the temple premises.

Sources say when he was stopped by another youth from doing so, he (Yasir Alfaz) tried to overpower him.

Police have arrested the man and a few local youth who were against the desecration act and started the investigation.

Who is this man?

His name is Yasir Alfaz. He hails from a village in Doda District.

Reportedly, he was of ‘unsound' mind.

Protests, clashes, vehicles set on fire

After the news of temple desecration spread in the city, protestors set three vehicles on fire and had resorted to stone pelting on police.

Mobile Internet services suspended 

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jammu, Simrandeep Singh told says, “Top police and civil officials have been monitoring the situation since Tuesday night and the decision to suspend the mobile internet services was taken to stop any further flare-up of the situation.”

He said if the situation remains normal, the suspension of mobile Internet services would be revoked in the evening.

Adequate police deployment has been made to thwart any untoward incident.
