Srinagar: Opposition parties National Conference and Congress MLAs today staged a walkout from the Jammu Kashmir Legislative Assembly over alleged discrepancies in list of BPL beneficiaries of CAPD department.
National Conference MLA Kamal Verma raised the issue of discrepancies in the Below Poverty Line (BPL) beneficiaries in the ration cards saying no criteria were being followed for categorisation of the consumers.
Rural Development Minister Abdul Haq Khan, in his reply to the question on behalf of Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD), mentioned the criteria for inclusion of consumers in various categories for distribution of ration.
Several members from National Conference and Congress claimed that well-off people were included in the list of BPL beneficiaries while the deserving ones were left out.
Ruling PDP MLA Yawar Mir questioned the government's criteria for exclusion of consumers from the list of subsidised ration.
“You are excluding a person with 80 kanals (four hectares) of land holding but including someone who has 75 kanals (3.75 hectares). What is the logic?” he asked.
The opposition MLAs expressed dissatisfaction with the government's reply to the issue and several of them staged a walkout.
