JAMMU: In a significant development, the Ministry of Home Affairs has announced amendments to the Transaction of Business of the Government of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Rules, 2019. The amendments, made under the authority of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, aim to streamline the process of key appointments within the administration of the Union Territory.

The newly introduced Transaction of Business of the Government of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir (Amendment) Rules, 2024, were officially notified on February 28, 2024. These rules mark a notable shift in the governance structure of the region.

One of the pivotal changes introduced by the amendments is the alteration of Rule 50, Sub-rule (2), where clause (b) has been replaced. The revised clause now mandates the consideration of proposals for the appointment of three crucial positions including Chief Secretary, Administrative Secretary (Home), and Director General of Police. This amendment reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring the efficient functioning and security of the Union Territory.

The amendments come as part of the ongoing efforts to enhance governance mechanisms and administrative efficiency in Jammu and Kashmir. By centralizing the process for key appointments, the government aims to strengthen decision-making processes and ensure greater accountability in the administration.
