New Delhi, Jun 27: India has launched Operation Amistad, a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) mission, to support earthquake-hit Venezuela following the devastating tremors that caused widespread destruction, fatalities and injuries.
The Ministry of External Affairs said two Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft departed for Venezuela on Saturday carrying humanitarian relief supplies and a 41-member rescue team to assist ongoing search, rescue and relief operations.
The relief package includes a self-sufficient Indian medical task force, an Indian Army Field Hospital unit with HADR pallets and medicines, 30 tonnes of relief material, six tonnes of medicines and medical equipment, and two BHISHM Cube portable hospitals. The 41-member team, comprising experienced rescue personnel and medical professionals, will work with Venezuelan authorities in search and rescue operations, emergency medical care and humanitarian assistance in the affected areas.
The ministry said Operation Amistad reflects India’s solidarity with the Government and people of Venezuela. It expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, wished a speedy recovery to the injured and said India remains in close coordination with Venezuelan authorities and is prepared to extend further assistance if required.
