40 Fake FIFA World Cup Ticket Sites Target Fans: Report

NEW DELHI, June 12: At least 40 fake ticketing websites linked to a cyber fraud network involving 15 active operators have been identified ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, according to a report released by cybersecurity firm CloudSEK on Friday.

The report revealed that the fraudulent network is using cloned FIFA ticketing platforms to deceive fans and steal sensitive financial information. Unlike conventional phishing scams, the operation employs advanced techniques, including real-time card skimming and potential one-time password (OTP) interception capabilities.

Cybersecurity experts warned that unsuspecting users visiting these fake websites risk losing payment details and personal information while attempting to purchase World Cup tickets online.

CloudSEK said the network appears to be well-organized, with multiple cybercriminal operators managing fraudulent domains designed to closely mimic legitimate FIFA ticketing portals. The fake websites exploit the high demand for World Cup tickets and the excitement surrounding the tournament to lure victims.

The firm urged football fans to exercise caution while booking tickets and advised them to use only official FIFA channels and authorized ticketing platforms. Users were also asked to verify website URLs carefully and avoid clicking on suspicious links received through emails, social media or messaging applications.

The findings highlight the growing sophistication of cyber fraud campaigns targeting major global sporting events and underscore the need for heightened online vigilance among consumers. (Agencies)
