New Delhi, Jul 2: The Special Cell of Delhi Police on Thursday busted an alleged ISI-sponsored inter-state terror and arms module with the arrest of four operatives accused of plotting a terror attack in the Delhi-NCR region, officials said.
The arrested accused have been identified as Shubdeep Singh alias Vishal, Gurjant Singh alias Rishi, Sajan Singh alias Honey and Gaganpreet. Police recovered two foreign-made pistols, nine live cartridges and five mobile phones during the operation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Praveen Kumar Tripathi said the arrests followed specific intelligence inputs indicating that Pakistan-based handler Shahzad Bhatti and his associates were recruiting youths from Punjab to execute a planned terror strike in Delhi-NCR.
According to police, the accused were using foreign phone numbers arranged by their Pakistan-based handlers to avoid detection. One of them had allegedly been assigned to conduct reconnaissance of religious places and police establishments in Delhi and carry out a firing incident.
The operation was carried out by a Special Cell team led by Inspectors Satish Rana and Ashok under the supervision of ACP Vivek Kumar Tyagi. Acting on technical surveillance and intelligence inputs, police first arrested Shubdeep Singh from Amritsar, which led to the apprehension of Gurjant Singh and Sajan Singh in Punjab. Gaganpreet was later arrested from Delhi.
Investigators said the module was allegedly operating with cross-border support and remained in contact with Pakistan-based handlers, who were supplying arms through drones. Gaganpreet was allegedly tasked with preparing videos of police stations and police pickets in Delhi as part of the conspiracy.
Further investigation is underway to identify other members of the network and trace its cross-border links, police said. (Agencies)
