BJP Jammu & Kashmir has decided to recall days of emergency as the darkest period in the history of Indian democracy as “Save Democracy Day”. This was informed in a press conference held at party headquarter, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu which was addressed by BJP State Secretary Sanjay Baru along with State Executive Member Surinder Sharma and Subhash Gupta. While addressing the press conference, Sanjay Baru deliberated that the National General Secretary of BJP, Dr. Anil Jain will reach Jammu to address a programme to be held at party office on 26th of June, morning 10:30 a.m. which will be presided over by former Dy. CM Kavinder Gupta to recall and denounce the dark days of emergency imposed by the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. He said that the former PM made every effort to become a dictator using the official machinery, whilst the government had miserably failed on all fronts due to its wrong policies. Dr. Anil Jain will highlight the setback suffered by Indian democracy due to period of emergency imposed by Congress and the role of Nationalistic groups especially by RSS leaders to repose the faith in democratic setup, he added.
Surinder Sharma, while further elaborating on the issue threw light on the happenings and sufferings that came into the effect as aftermath of “Emergency”. He said that, as on the eventful midnight of 25th of June, the Emergency was imposed by the then President of India on the recommendations of the then Prime Minister of India, every voice was silenced with force by the power that had been bestowed upon by the draconian order. He said that every opposition voice, every sane intellectual, every differing media voice was silenced and jailed and made to suffer as hundreds of persons were killed cold bloodedly out of which maximum remained unrecorded.
