8,000 Vande Bharat coaches to be made as Railways plans fleet overhaul

    Date:

New Delhi, Jul 28: A total of 8,000 Vande Bharat coaches are to be manufactured over the next few years as the Indian Railways prepares to overhaul its fleet completely and induct more of these semi-high speed trainsets. A Vande Bharat Express trainset typically has 16 coaches. It also runs with eight coaches on routes based on need. Around two-third of the 8,000 coaches planned will be sourced from the industry, under the prevailing model of manufacture and maintenance contracts, as per the coach production programme approved by the Railways Ministry this year. A 16-coach trainset would typically cost around Rs 130 crore, sources said.
