Two Pak Border Action Team terrorists gunned down

Date:

Tawi, May 26: Attack by Pakistan's BAT unit repulsed in Uri, two killed: Army

The Army on Friday has foiled an attack by Pakistan's Border Action Team (BAT) on the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector in Jammu and and killed two BAT terrorists..

The bodies of the slain BAT terrorists have not be retrieved as these are lying in the ‘no man's land' on the LoC, sources said here.

The sources dubbed BAT attacks from across the LoC as dastardly, especially in the Jammu region.

“At about 8.40 a.m., two armed intruders infiltrated in Uri Sector of Jammu and Kashmir from the vicinity of a known Pakistani post and came close to the Indian Army post, about 500 metres inside the Indian side of the Line of Control,” an Army spokesperson said.

After firing exchanges, the two intruders were killed by the Indian Army.

One AK-47 rifle, one pistol and “warlike” stores were recovered from the slain BAT personnel.

On May 1, Pakistan's brutal BAT mutilated the bodies of two Indian soldiers in Krishna Ghati sector along the LoC, where they had beheaded Lance Naik Hemraj in 2013. The Border Action Team had infiltrated 200 metres into the Indian side in Krishna Ghati sector with the Pakistani army providing cover fire from across the border in Poonch.

“We have foiled BAT's action against Indian Army patrol along the Line of Control in Uri sector today. Two BAT have been gunned down by our Army men. We are conducting a search operation in the area,” Defence Spokesperson Rajesh Kalia told.

He said Army has intensified its vigil along the LoC after BAT action and many infiltration attempts by the Pakistani terrorists.

According to police sources, the bodies of the two attackers were lying in no man's land along the LoC.

Sources told that Army also carried out regular patrols between the posts to detect intrusion attempts. The BATs target Indian soldiers in these trenches as well as officers on patrol duty.

“Around five to six SSG men have been deployed with six units of the Pakistani troops along the LoC. There are reports indicating that they may carry out Border Action Team action. The BAT teams are also known to have planted land mines on the Indian sides of the LoC to target soldiers on patrol route,” the source added.

On May 21, the Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt in the Nougam sector of North Kashmir by killing four terrorists. Three jawans were also martyred in the encounter. The infiltration of terrorists has increased this year and over 200 militants are waiting along the LoC for sneaking into Kashmir.

As per the Multi Agency Centre figures, 19 terrorists have infiltrated into Kashmir till April this year. These terrorists mostly infiltrated from Keran, Gurez, Machil and Nowgam sectors. Two groups of these terrorists managed to infiltrate in winter when the mountain passes were covered with snow.

The BAT is a brutal and barbaric arm of Pakistan Army. Its actions along the Line of Control (LOC) may be not in public domain, but the Indian Army has been bearing its brunt for long.
