“THEY”, THE SOCIETY

Author: Puneet Kaur,  Edited by: Tufail Farooq

What is this “Society “?

People around us are somehow always ready to give unwanted opinion or always ready to provide unwanted help.

In the societal setup is such, where we are surrounded by such people who have keen eyes on others' lives. No one asks them to do so but they want to know everything about your family..

Tell me why?

Are they the investigators or our masters?  Do we have to live according to their norms? Oh beware.. mind your

voice, speak low, what are you wearing, where are you going, all is noticed by this so called society.

If a girl is wearing shorts and going outside they will directly attack her character. And if unluckily they spot a girl and boy together, then they are not spared by their taunts and judging eyes.

It's not the point whether you are a girl or a boy, you will be judged by this society anyway. We are taught to be what we are as ” Be yourself “, but when we emerge as a different personality we are again judged by this society.

Now again your career also needs their opinion as if they will be paying your bills. They will never be satisfied with your career and but in reality there is no need to satisfy them.” Ohhh! She is doing engineering. “, ” Ohhh! He is a teacher.” Such sarcastic tones are always used. “Your girl should opt for an easy job. Engineering is too hard.” “Teaching is the profession for girls not for boys.”

Now tell me where such norms have been laid? Are they in the terms and conditions of the field of work or study? Anyone can do anything irrespective of gender or race, but why this simple thing cannot be understood ?

Our family also sometimes gets prompted by this society.  For instance if we need something, we only get it after having a big discussion with someone else. This happens in our family sometimes.

How can anyone else understand other person's need? Likewise, our career is decided based on the of others.

People generally pick on someone's attire and criticize them but their own get to be exceptions to this rule. If you are active they say that you are very “over” and if you are quiet they say that he\she is very arrogant.

They give their verdict without knowing you and your personality which is the not even the last thing that anyone needs.

The truth is this that the society can never be satisfied. Its generally said that we should do what we want and what we feel is right but there always comes a point in life when the taunts and the comments of the society affect you and your personality in gloomy way. And that is the adverse effect of their useless suggestions.

But in the end we have to overcome that fear and shine our lives the way we want. But when we really need the help of the society, their support ,we find no one.

Then there is also other side of the society where people help the needy without commenting on their race or their status.

Even if the society is fake and bad, its us that the society is made up of, and this should never be forgotten. So if we want to change it we should start by changing our mindsets. The crux is to stop judging people …Live and Let Live.
