Marcus Thuram Hits Back at Journalist Who Mistook Him for Mbappe With Wry Remark
French Forward Marcus Thuram had a witty response to a journalist who confused him for national team captain Kylian Mbappe ahead of Les Bleus' opening Euro 2024 match against Austria. During a pre-match press conference, Thuram playfully told reporters “I'm more handsome than Kylian. I don't look like a ninja turtle” after being mistaken for the superstar striker.
Mbappe has assumed leadership duties with the national team following Hugo Lloris' retirement last year. The decorated forward recently completed a high-profile transfer to Real Madrid after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired.
On a more serious note, Thuram also used the platform to encourage French citizens to vote in the upcoming parliamentary elections to help prevent Marine Le Pen's far-right National Rally party from gaining power. “We must tell everyone to go and vote. We all need to fight daily so that this doesn't happen and that the National Rally does not succeed,” the Borussia Monchengladbach attacker stressed.
France will be hoping to kick off their Euro 2024 campaign on a positive note when they take on Austria on Monday. Didier Deschamps' world champions are also scheduled to face the Netherlands and Poland as they aim to progress from Group D.
