Punjab woman residing in New Jersey shot dead, leaving family in poverty

    Date:

A woman from Nurmahal in who resided in New Jersey tragically lost her life after being shot, leaving her family in a financial crisis. 29-year old Jasvir Kaur and her cousin 20-year old Gagandeep Kaur were allegedly fired upon by 21-year old Gaurav Gill in New Jersey on June 15th. Jasvir, who was three months pregnant, sadly succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. Gagandeep survived the attack but suffered injuries.

Gaurav Gill, a former classmate of Gagandeep's from Jalandhar, had taken TOEFL courses with her in the past where they became acquainted. On the day of the incident, he was trying to convince Gagandeep to go with him but she refused and instead called her cousin Jasvir for assistance. Enraged by the refusal, Gill is said to have brandished a handgun and opened fire on the two women. He was later apprehended by New Jersey law enforcement officials, whose footage arresting him has circulated online.

The tragic loss has deeply impacted both families in their village of Gorsiyan Peeran in Nurmahal. Jasvir's parents own just 2 acres of farmland, making their livelihood difficult. They had relied on their daughter Jasvir, who lived in New Jersey for 6 years after her marriage, to financially support them. She had informed them she was pregnant and planning to bring them to Dubai to celebrate the good news. Gagandeep's family also solely depended on her income in USA to sustain themselves.

With their sole means of support now gone due to the sudden death, both families find themselves in a helpless financial situation with an uncertain future. They have appealed for justice to be served. This unfortunate incident has cast a long shadow of sorrow over the village.
