Labourers allege steep hike in fare amid Covid time

Date:

Tawi, Jul 15 : The passenger fare on Srinagar-Jammu highway and other main roads are skyrocketing each passing day as there is no attention from the government in this regard.

As the Corona cases have declined significantly, non local labourers who are visiting to different parts of Jammu and alleged that they are being “looted” on the name of passenger fare.

Labourers alleged that last year they were paying Rs 200 as fare from Jammu to Rajouri but this time they are being asked to pay Rs 400.

Labourers alleged that they are asked to pay double charges as fare from Jammu to Banihal besides other routes.

Rehmatullah, a labourer from Bihar said that increasing fare at this stage when everyone is going through tough times is not fair and if the same condition continues most of the poor labourers will die of starvation.

“We come here every year to earn some money for our family back home but looting us in such a way will have very wrong consequences on us,” he said.

Labours demanded that there should be fixed fare to every area so that no one can “loot passengers.”

Passengers locals, as well as non-locals, have appealed to the administration to look into the matter.

However, drivers denying the allegations said that they are charging the same fare as last year despite that rates of fuel have increased.
