NEW DELHI, May 21: The government has prohibited the use of cosmetic products as injections by consumers, professionals and aesthetic clinics, clarifying that cosmetics are not meant for injectable use.
The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) said cosmetic products are intended only to be rubbed, poured, sprinkled or sprayed on the human body.
According to the CDSCO, the manufacture and import of cosmetics for sale and distribution are regulated under the provisions of the Cosmetics Rules, 2020.
The agency stated that cosmetics are meant solely for cleansing, beautifying, promoting attractiveness or altering the appearance of the human body.
It further warned that the use of prohibited ingredients in cosmetic products, misleading claims on labels, use of cosmetics for treatment purposes and application of cosmetics through injections would amount to violations under the relevant Act and Rules.
The CDSCO directed consumers, professionals and aesthetic clinics to strictly comply with the regulations governing cosmetic products. (Agencies)
