Jammu Tawi: Harbans Roshan Bhalla Educational Foundation (HRBEF) has launched its 15-day scholarship selection drive for the 2024 academic year. The event was inaugurated by Kunil K. Bhalla, Managing Trustee, at the Bee Enn General Hospital Complex, Talab Tillo Road, Jammu. The program aims to support deserving students from government schools, particularly from classes 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, with a special focus on girls from rural areas. 70% of the selected students will be girls from remote areas, with an emphasis on financial need. The test will be conducted between November 16th and November 29th, 2024, with testing hours from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM daily. HREF has been awarding scholarships to underprivileged children since 1997, with the number of beneficiaries growing from 12 in the first year to 637 in 2024.
In addition to the main scholarship programme, HREF has introduced additional awards for toppers this year under the Ram Lal Bhalla Awards for Toppers Scheme. A total of Rs. 1,25,000 will be distributed among students who achieve 75% marks or above in the scholarship test. The scholarship test is conducted four times a year. HREF also honors Board exam toppers through the Sunanda Dua Awards, given annually in memory of Lt. Sunanda Dua. Family’s of financially underprivileged girls from classes 1st to 3rd are encouraged to apply for scholarships, with preference given to girls from government schools who demonstrate financial need and a commitment to education.
