Protestors in Kashmir set police vehicle ablaze over HM commander’s death

Srinagar June 28 :  Pro Terrorist protesters set ablaze a police vehicle (Tata 407) at the Shiva area of Sopore, Baramulla district in today.

The youth protested against killing of the Hizbul-Mujahideen Commander, Sameer Ahmad Wani alias Jan, a resident of Dooru, Sopore in a gunfight with the forces at Nagri area of Kupwara earlier in the morning.

Protests erupted at Dooru and its adjoining areas soon after the news about the killing of the HM militant spread in the area. Chanting pro-freedom and anti- slogans, the youth clashed with the police forces and started pelting stones at them.

Meanwhile, a police vehicle bearing registration number JK15-4530 was stopped by the protesters near Shiva area and set aflame.

As per the sources, the incident occurred when a police team was carrying an inmate, Khursheed Ahmad Wagay, from Kupwara jail to session Judge Bandipora for court hearing. The police party along with the inmate left the spot and rushed to the nearby police station safely.

Reports of intense clashes were reported at Nagri, Kawardi and its adjacent areas in Kupwara district too. Youth were seen on motorbikes in Drugmulla, chanting pro-freedom slogans during the procession wherein they took the body of the slain militant towards his native village in Sopore.

Police tried to disperse the crowd by shooting teargas shells and also fired several air shots.

Clashes were going on in the areas till last reports came in.
