A tragic shooting incident earlier this week at a popular dining facility in Yellowstone National Park has shed light on the ominous events leading up to the attack. Park authorities have revealed more details surrounding the shooter and the threat he posed to visitors.
According to officials, the gunman – identified as 28-year-old Samson Lucas Bariah Fussner from Florida – had held a woman hostage with a firearm in the early hours of the day in question. The unnamed woman later reported that during this terrifying ordeal, Fussner had verbally threatened to kill multiple people and carry out a mass shooting at nearby Independence Day celebrations scheduled outside the park.
Rangers launched an intensive manhunt for Fussner upon receiving this critical information. Meanwhile, extra security measures were put in place to safeguard the large number of visitors within the national park. However, around 8 am, Fussner opened fire on law enforcement officials as he approached the service entrance of the popular Canyon Lodge dining area, which was filled with approximately 200 people at the time.
In response, several park rangers shot and killed the active shooter on the scene to prevent further bloodshed. Their swift and decisive action is believed to have saved countless lives inside the busy facility. One ranger was injured but later released from the hospital.
The FBI is currently investigating the entire incident. Yellowstone Superintendent Cam Sholly acknowledged the heroic efforts of the responding rangers, remarking that thanks to their courageous response in neutralizing the dangerous threat, many more were able to return home safely to their loved ones.
