Functioning of JKAIDC reviewed

Advisor to Governor, K Skandan today stressed on the need for developing Common Facility Centers (CFC) with small and modular cold storage system to enable farmers to preserve their produce for longer period.
Chairing a review meeting of the Jammu and Agro Industries Development Corporation (JKAIDC) here, Advisor Skandan asked the Corporation to focus on post harvest techniques like sorting and packaging of Agri products.
The meeting was informed that the Corporation is planning to set up 1000 MTs capacity cold storage in each district of the state involving a cost of Rs 5 crore.
The meeting was further informed that the infrastructure thus raised will also give regular income to the Corporation and help in its financial stability. It proposed to construct these facilities on available land of department.
The Advisor was also informed that the Corporation was planning to set up farmer friendly composite petrol pumps at different locations. It was given out in the meeting that all investment other than the investment required for purchase of petrol, diesel and land on these retail outlets will be met by M/S Indian Oil Corporation.
Under these composite petrol pumps farmer shall be provided with all the facilities for purchase of small agriculture machinery and inputs, the meeting was told.
The meeting was further informed that the Corporation among other activities has Procurement and Sales Division at Kashmir and Jammu where Agri and Horti machinery equipment and other allied inputs are being arranged and supplied to various government departments and farmers.
The meeting was attended by senior officers of Jammu and Kashmir Agro Industries Development Corporation.
