Dearth of Faculties in CUJ

Date:

Although dispensations in power both at the Centre and in the Union Territory of J&K boast of making the region educational hub with quality institutions coming up on fast track basis but what is more important is the fact that the existing educational facilities should be looked after very keenly leaving no room for inadequacy that mars the purpose. The report coming out with regard to deficiency of teaching staff is telling the sordid state of affair of the functioning of Central University of as an RTI response has unravelled that around 40 percent of faculty positions are lying vacant in this higher institution, giving the idea about dismal scenario about its efficacy and output.

Reportedly, nearly 40 percent posts of teaching staff are lying vacant in Central University of Jammu (CUJ), as revealed by the Central Public Information Officers of the University in a reply to the RTI application filed online.

With such dearth of teaching faculty, one can gauge well about the quality of education, which the students are being imparted with because under such inadequacy it is not possible to run the institution with compromises and shortcomings. It is not a new institution now because many years have passed after its inception and therefore such lacunae are disturbing and unjustified because these impair the very purpose of opening such a high rated educational institution in this part of the Union Territory.

It is pertinent to mention that the Public Information Officer (PIO) of CUJ in his reply to the aforesaid RTI has informed that sanctioned strength of teaching positions in the university is 178 and present strength of the teaching staff is 107.

The gap between sanctioned strength and the present strength tells the ground situation as the concerned authorities must have to toil hard to fill the gap and bring back this higher seat of education on track. There is dire need to mull on the issue because in the absence of teaching faculty of a particular subject, no other faculty member could do justice and therefore the students confronting the staff dearth will have to face the brunt in the shape of lacking proper knowledge of the subject.

It is advisable for the helmsmen to work on this important issue and sooner than later get rid of this shortcoming so that education of the students don't suffer.
