Jammu Tawi: AICRP Weed Management, Division of Agronomy, today organised a Parthenium Awareness Camp at village Khandwal, Satwari Block in Jammu District under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu. On this occasion, Dr. Pradeep Wali, Associate Director Research, SKUAST-J, grace the programme and he explained that parthenium popularly known as carrot weed and it is considered as one of the most problematic weed of the world, it has now spread throughout the country including Jammu region. Dr. B. R. Bazaya, Senior Scientist and Incharge, AICRP-Weed Management highlighted harmful effects of parthenium on crops and humans as it causes many skin diseases and allergies in both humans and animals. He advised to farmers and public to started vigorous campaign to eradicate parthenium completely at village level. Dr. R. Puniya Jr. Scientist, AICRP Weed Management explained about the physical, chemical and biological control measures for management of parthenium. About more than 30 farmers have been participated in this programme. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr. R. Puniya, Jr. Scientist, AICRP Weed Management, SKUAST-Jammu.
