Govt mulling daily wagers', contractuals' involvement in Kashmir Unrest
Srinagar, Oct 26 (KNS): After Jammu and Kashmir government terminated 12 employees, authorities are now conducting the verification of daily wagers and contractuals to check whether they had participated in the ongoing uprising in Kashmir who may be shown the door.
Reliable sources told KNS that the government has directed all departmental heads to conduct the verification of daily wagers and contractuals in their respective departments whether they had participated in the pro-freedom rallies and involved in stone pelting incidents. “Once the dossier is prepared these daily wagers and contractual will be shown the door,” a senior government official said.
“The verification process is currently going on. Government has received reports from J&K police's CID about the contractual and daily wagers who have participated in protests in the Valley for the last three months,” he said.
Earlier, Government has terminated 12 employees last week accused of being “organizers and provocateurs” and fuelling the ongoing unrest in Kashmir.
While issuing termination orders, the Government decided against holding mandatory inquiry into these cases, claiming that same was not practicable in the given circumstances.
“In the prevailing situation and keeping in view the charged atmosphere including threat perception to witnesses, it would not be feasible for the witnesses to depose in case of inquiry,” the dismissal orders issued by the Government read.
This is second time in 26 years of militancy in Kashmir that government officials have been sacked over allegations of anti-national activities in the state.
In 1990, five officials were sacked for their pro-separatist stand, among them Naeem Akhtar who was then a Deputy Commissioner in the Excise Department. Akhtar is currently a senior People's Democratic Party and minister in the Mehbooba Mufti government.
The State Government is invoking Article 126 of Jammu and Kashmir Constitution for terminating these employees.
The termination of employees has evoked resentment from employees and has been criticized by the political parties in Kashmir. (KNS)
