Two cops killed in militant attack in Kulgam

Kulgam, Nov 25, CNS: In an audacious attack, suspected militants targeted a police party, killing two cops on spot and critically injuring one in South 's Kulgam district.

Police sources said three personnel of IRP were outside District Police Lines Kulgam when militants fired at them.

The slain duo have been identified as Head Constable Tanveer Ahmad of Kanipora Kulgam and Constable Jalaluddin Khandey of Sopur Kulgam, while the injured constable identified as Shamsuddin Bhat of Reasi district was shifted to SKIMS for advanced treatment.

The gunshots created panic in the area, while people ran for cover, locals said adding that militants who reportedly fled from the spot in a private car fired several shot in air before disappearing from the scene.

A police official said that the private vehicle suspected militants used to carry out the attack have been recovered.

Sources said that the militants had left the vehicle deserted, one kilometre away at Laroo Kulgam. The black Santro vehicle bearing number JK18-2207 has been recovered, sources in DPL Kulgam said. (CNS)
