SRINAGAR: Girls beware! Next time you will be seen without purdah (veil), you may have to face the wrath of militants in . Handwritten posters of Hizbul Mujahidin have surfaced Ganderbal district of central Kashmir warning people to keep away from “Western ”.

The posters in Urdu have been found pasted on walls at several places in Kangan area of Ganderbal district.  The posters read that that girls and women living their lifestyle what they watch in TV serials should be stopped forthwith. The Hizb warned such people to mend their ways and stop living such life and also warned the youths and others not to roam around during the late evenings.

The poster also warned young boys and girls to stay away from music. The Hizb poster said that they have names of some people and if they don't stop such practices, else they will face dire consequences.

In these posters, the Hizb has said that at a time when their youths (militants) are sacrificing their lives for the freedom of and Kashmir, there are some people who are indulging immoral activities, some youths are doing immoral and un-Islamic activities like drugs, and corruption is very common.

Hizbul militants have also asked the youth to stay away from the “immoral acts”. “There are people who are addicted to liquor, charas and other drug abuse in various areas,” reads the posters.

Police according to sources have taken the posters very seriously and put the investigation on the fast track to reach to the bottom of the case.

It is not the first time militants have embarked on a moral policing in Kashmir. Similar Hizbul posters had sprung up in various parts warning the youth particularly girls against wearing “western clothes, surfing net and watching films and television soaps”.

A hitherto unknown militant group “Lashkar al Qaeda” and “al Qaeda Mujahideen” in 2012 had asked Kashmiri girls to observe purdah (veil) and shun using mobile phones or else they will allegedly be “killed or disfigured by acid” in south Kashmir district of Shopian.
