There is not an iota of doubt in the fact that the Reasi Administration is taking all the pain to change the situation on ground as far as exploring the tourism potential of the district is concerned but the problem which is going to act as the biggest bottleneck is that the things need to be started from the beginning because the successive governments have neglected the region in an apathetic manner leading to places and things losing their sheen dismally. It is good that the incumbent Deputy Commissioner is showing extraordinary interest in rejuvenating tourism edifice in the region by roping in the concerned stakeholders and exploring things as far as possible to at least make a good start. Reportedly, the aforesaid officer has visited various places around Katra town to understand the tourism potential of these places, which is a good start indeed as earlier governments never bothered to even discuss such things which can have positive results as far as improving the socio-economic condition of the region is concerned. The places which were visited by the concerned DC include Nau-Devian, Dhansar, Siad-Baba, etc.
It is pertinent to mention that the concerned administration is interested in exploiting the tourism potential of these places by ensuring that the nearly one crore devotees visiting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine should also visit these places to uplift the local populace and boost the local economy, which was badly undermined by the successive governments due to their phlegmatic approach in the matter. Although it is a stark reality that whosoever will take initiative in promoting tourism in this region needs to start from the beginning as except for natural beauty and the religious significance, these places have almost nothing to offer to the pilgrims and the tourists. As the region is arid and temperatures soar during the summer months, first of all, the government should ensure all the amenities including restaurants, hotels etc have air conditioning facility, which is a must in today's world. Besides state of the art transport service, good roads, well maintained viewpoints can also act as icing on the cake. Sadly, presently very little or almost no such facilities are available making it necessary to first create quality edifice before inviting the visitors as best services would ensure that every visitor should act as an ambassador of Reasi's tourist spots when he or she will return to native lands. Once the facilities will be offered the tourists themselves will throng these places in the district because the same are nature's bounties and anyone visiting these places and cherishing the beauty would find him or herself to be lucky. All said and done, the development of these places is paramount to boost tourism and woo devotees.
