Punjab Police intensifies focused drives to curb drug supply networks

Date:

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has emphasized on strictly curbing drug supply networks in the state. In line with this, the state police have launched extensive drives targeting known drug distribution centers across districts.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav instructed all units to focus on intercepting supply at vulnerable distribution points. Following a detailed analysis of area-specific drug sale hotspots, the police prepared a list of top 10 hotspots in each district. This list was circulated to local police chiefs to aid strategic raids.

Under Senior Superintendent Arpit Shukla's monitoring, raids were conducted simultaneously on June 19th from 11am to 3pm. Over 250 teams comprising more than 2,500 officers cordoned off 280 identified hotspots. Superintendent-ranked officers led operations involving thorough searches and canine aided frisking of suspicious individuals.

The drives led to 31 cases registered and 43 arrests. Systematic mapping of high-risk zones not only deters criminal activities but also boosts public trust in the force. The CM has warned of strict action against any police personnel involved in the illegal trade. Continued and intelligence-backed crackdowns are aiming to disrupt supply chains diluting the sale of illicit substances.
