The head of Punjab’s BJP unit recently wrote to the Prime Minister requesting support for a meaningful gesture. Sunil Jakhar hoped renaming the Adampur airport in Jalandhar after the revered 15th century saint Guru Ravidas would give spiritual significance to the important transport hub.
In his letter, Jakhar commended PM Modi for his outstanding electoral victory and commitment to uplifting disadvantaged communities. He recalled Modi’s statements during a Punjab visit where renaming the airport was proposed. Seeing the PM shares the view, a formal name change was respectfully requested.
Jakhar also encouraged developing the area around a Delhi temple dedicated to Guru Ravidas. Given its planning for reconstruction, a peaceful garden setting could deepen the site’s reflection of his teachings advocating equality and compassion.
As a leading voice for Punjab’s BJP, Jakhar’s recommendations reflect the saint’s enduring influence across religious boundaries. By honoring Guru Ravidas in this public manner, it aims to bring people closer in understanding India’s diversity – a unity of vision the PM strongly supports. The proposal now awaits consideration at the highest levels to see if this spiritual tribute can become reality.
