Srinagar, Mar 31 (KNS): Ahead of the inauguration of Chenani-Nashri tunnel by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, the security forces in the and has been put on high alert.

Modi will inaugurate the 's longest highway tunnel at Chenani Nashri, between Udhampur and Ramban in on April 2. He is also scheduled to address a public rally in Udhampur.

Security forces in the state have been put on high alert across the state, with a multi-tier security system in place.

Director General of Police, JK, Dr S. P Vaid told KNS that all security arrangements have been made for the visit of the country's highest dignitary.

“All security measures are in place and a high alert has been sounded in the state,” Vaid told KNS.

The DGP yesterday chaired a high-level security meeting attended by senior officers from JKP, Para-military forces, Intelligence and Civil administration in Jammu and expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements put in place by security agencies with regard to PM's visit.

The DGP stressed for maintaining close coordination among the security agencies to ensure incident free visit.

DGP stressed upon the officers to sound alertness in the border areas and ensure round the clock patrolling, making the visit peaceful.

“Vital installation including airport, railway stations and high ways needs to be brought under continuous surveillance,” said the DGP.

He said that area in and around the venue of public meeting should also be highly semsitised leaving no opportunity for the inimical elements.

Traffic plan was also discussed in the meeting and it was decided that common people should not be put to any inconvenience due to the arrangements made for the VIP visit.

The 10.89 km tunnel, constructed with an investment of Rs 2,519 crore, forms part of the proposed widening of Highway 44 (old NH-1A) from Jammu to Srinagar.

The tunnel is the longest highway tunnel in India boasting of features like Integrated Traffic Control System (ITCS), Video Surveillance System and FM Rebroadcast System, among others and will reduce travel time by approximately two hours, apart from promising fuel savings to the tune of 27 lakh per day.
