LeT module in Doda busted, 5 arrested for attack on police post
Jammu and Kashmir's SIT busted Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) module planning to revive militancy in Chenab valley and arrested five men for the attack on police picket in Tanta in Doda district in which two cops were grievously injured.
The picket was attacked on 7th May.
In view of the attack IGP Jammu, Dr. S.D Singh visited Doda and constituted a SIT to probe the attack.
The SIT along with a team of FSL visited the spot and conducted a preliminary investigation. From the intelligence generated through local source, SIT picked up some suspects and on their disclosure apprehended one Abdul Rashid Harga, a resident of Tanta, who was an active militant of LeT outfit from 2001 to 2008 and had later surrendered.
After sustained interrogation, Abdul Rashid Harga confessed his involvement in the firing incident and disclosed names of his two more associates — his younger brother Shoket Ali and Akthar Magary.
On sustained interrogation of the trio, the entire chain of events leading to the attack on police picket was revealed. It turned out that Abdul Rashid Harga was in contact with one Bashir Ahmed, who earlier worked in 139 TA Bn in Thathri. Bashir Ahmed asked his nephew Altaf Ahmed, who is working as SPO in police department in Doda district, to arrange weapon for him. The said SPO managed to steal one AK -47 rifle along with ammunition from district Police Line Doda this January.
Abdul Rashid Harga was in direct contact with his Pakistani handler Mohd Amin alias Khubeb, originally a resident of Kathava Phaksu, Thathri, commander in chief for Chinab valley.
During the course of investigation, involvement of 2 more sympathizers namely Shafqat Hussain and Hafiz surfaced in connection with the attack. On their interrogation, it came to light that Rashid Abdullah along with others have been enticing the youths of Tanta area to join the militancy.
Rashid Abdullah was regularly conducting meetings in erstwhile militancy affected areas of Chenab Valley and motivating surrendered/ Ex militants/OGWs.
On further interrogation of the accused, weapon of offence AK-47 along with 3 magazines and ammunition have been recovered.
With the arrest of these 5 accused, recovery of weapon and busting of LeT module, cops claim the police picket attack case has been solved.
