Jammu Tawi, Dec 17 (UNI): Taking a serious note of the list of candidates who had applied for the two-year Bachelors in the Physical Education course, the Dean Academic Affairs (DAA) of University of Jammu has pulled up the Directorate of BP Ed for finalizing the selection list allegedly in a hush-hush manner without following proper channels.
Official sources in Jammu University said that the Directorate of BP Ed has issued the final list of ”selected aspirants,” who applied for the BP Ed course without adopting the norms of the Dean Academic Affairs – the responsible wing for releasing all the lists.
Sources further said, “Taking cognizance of the written complaints registered by some of the applicants, who missed the Canadian test – a mandatory eligibility test to qualify for the BP Ed course – the DAA summoned the Director BP.Ed Dawood Iqbal Baba to his chamber and sought explanation from him.”
They said that some of the applicants from far-flung areas, who failed to appear in the Canadian test had alleged that they were not intimated due to which they missed the train claiming that the attempt had been made to accommodate some of the ‘blue-eyed'.
“It took me by surprise when I learnt that the Canadian test was conducted by the Directorate of BP.Ed and the list was finalized by the department in a hush-hush manner without any intimation to the applicants and many deserving and eligible for the test,” they said, raising eyebrows that what prompted the Directorate of BP.Ed to issue the first list on its own throwing all admission norms to wind.
Dean Academic Affairs (DAA), University of Jammu, Prof Naresh Padha, when contacted here told UNI, “We have re-notified the schedule because previously some candidates could not get information and failed to appear in the Canadian test.
“Though the list readied earlier is on a merit basis, we have taken the notice of the process followed because schedule has to be notified properly in a transparent manner,” said Prof Padha.
“We want that the list must be free and fair and all deserving applicants must get the admission in the course,” said the Dean, adding that merit has to be based upon the Canadian test to qualify for the course.
“The Directorate of BP Ed going out of the way took this step without our notice and schedule, so we intervened and directed them to reschedule and circulate it widely so that all applicants can appear in the test,” Prof Padha said, adding that only merit based candidates will be considered in the final selection list.
“Many applications were received but some of the applicants missed the test and all those will appear in the Canadian test rescheduled for December 20 and the final list will be in public domain on the same day,” said the Dean.
Every year, 50 BP Ed seats are filled by the University of Jammu for the two-year course.
