Jammu Tawi: In a remarkable milestone, Jammu Power Distribution Company Ltd (JPDCL) has successfully completed 1500 rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. This initiative, aimed at promoting solar energy, provides free electricity to eligible households while encouraging sustainable energy practices across India.
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana aims to install solar panels in one crore households nationwide. The scheme offers subsidies ranging from Rs. 36,000 to Rs. 94,800, depending on the solar plant capacity. Under this program, excess electricity produced by the solar panels can be sold back to the national grid, benefiting households with additional income.
JPDCL’s achievement highlights the increasing adoption of renewable energy sources in Jammu. The company’s Managing Director, along with the District Level Committee, has worked diligently to ensure the smooth implementation of this initiative, making this milestone possible.
Additionally, five villages in Jammu district have been selected for large-scale implementation under the scheme. The village with the highest adoption rate will be awarded ₹1 crore as Central Financial Assistance.
In terms of progress, the Gandhinagar sub-division leads Jammu division with 120 installations, followed closely by the Shastri Nagar sub-division, which has completed 111 installations.
This accomplishment reflects JPDCL’s dedication to advancing sustainable energy solutions and reducing dependence on non-renewable sources of energy.
