New Delhi, August 27: India on Friday set a record by administering over one crore Covid 19 vaccine doses and counting at 10 pm, crossing a major milestone in its bid to cover all adults until December, as supplies improved.
The last highest daily dose administration record was over 88 lakh on August 17.
But 1 crore-plus doses is the highest ever India has achieved since the start of the inoculation drive on January 16 this year.
Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted about the arriving milestone earlier today saying, “Congratulations to the citizens as India today administers historic 90 lakh #COVID19 vaccines until now – and still counting.”
India needs to deliver 1 crore doses daily to cover nearly 90 crore adults who would need 1.8 billion doses.
The ministry will update final figures later tonight.
India has as of today administered over 62 crore vaccine doses, second highest globally after China.
Over 23,72,15,353 people aged 18-44 years have received the first dose and nearly 2,45,60,807 have been administered the second dose.
The government today said states were not facing any vaccine crunch now and for three weeks the unused vaccine doses with states have not fallen below 2.5 crore mark.
