Farmers seek action against alleged provocateurs at Patiala border protest site

Farmers protesting at Shambu border in Patiala have demanded action against individuals allegedly involved in instigating tensions at their site last weekend. Demonstrators have been camped at Shambu and Khanauri borders since February, calling on the government to address issues such as legalising minimum support prices for crops.

On Sunday, tensions were reported when another group attempted to take control of the protest stage. While traders from Ambala claimed they only wanted to share the impact of blockades on their business, farmers accused “miscreants” of conspiring to undermine their movement. Addressing the media yesterday, farm leaders urged authorities to arrest those reportedly behind the disturbance.

Kisan Mazdoor Morcha head Dilbagh Singh alleged a plot by governments to smear the ongoing agitation. “We will not move until blockades on highways are lifted,” he asserted. Similarly, BKU (Ekta Sidhupur) leader Kaka Singh placed responsibility for barricades on Haryana rather than protesters. BKU (Shaheed Bhagat Singh) president Amarjit Singh also alleged attempts to weaken farmer solidarity. The demonstrators have denied restricting any roads and demanded the way be cleared for their planned march to New Delhi.
