The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday extended the tenure of Dr. A G Ahangar, Director SKIMS and ex-officio Secretary to the Government, to December 31, “in light of the circumstances that has arisen as a result of COVID-19.”
An order issued by Secretary GAD, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi while confirming the development however said that Dr Ahangar “will not look after the issues related to procurement and appointments in the Institute, which shall be looked after a committee to be constituted by the Government”.
Dr Ahangar's term ended yesterday on June 25. He was first appointed to the post in June 2016.
In 2018, the incumbent SKIMS Director's term was marred by controversy after the government first attached him in January that year and then suspended him the very next month.
He was reinstated by the government a few months later.
