Connect Jammu with Yoga !

Date:

The practice of Yoga has prevailed upon the people amidst the fast changing society not within but across the globe. Many bodies including the United Nations have been observing World Yoga Day with various themes for overall well-being of the human body, mind and soul.

After 2014, the Centre has given immense importance to revival of Yoga practices within the country and abroad. The official patronage to Yoga science has brought the people very close to this age-old Indian legacy and majority of people from all walks of life have introduced the Yoga exercises in different measures.

The government has come up with an advisory asking its officers who, owing to their busy schedule, are unable to practice Yoga outdoors, to take a short ‘Yoga Break' or ‘Y-Break' while sitting in their office chairs. This will not only help government employees to de-stress and refresh but also give them an opportunity to refocus within a few minutes, in between work. The Centre has devised this mechanism to overcome stressful routines of our daily life. It is imperative for rejuvenation of mind and body to give hundred percent out-put and remain active for long hours.

Prime Minister Modi initiated the Yoga movement in India after assuming office in 2014 with celebration of the first International Day of Yoga on June 21st, 2015 terming Yoga as a “unifying force and passport for wellness.”

However, despite these efforts, there may be obstacles to implementing and promoting Yoga in some regions and reservation among some sections of society. A serious effort has also been underway as an International Yoga Centre, worth Rs 87 crore has been constructed at Mantalai, in Udhampur district. Although it has been completed by over 98%, it has not yet been dedicated to the public. PM Modi had planned to inaugurate this as an international-level project in April 2023, but this has yet to occur.

Time demands, the Yoga Centres be established at district level in collaboration between the government and the professional bodies to make Yoga easily accessible to common people in general and those suffering from life-style disorders in particular. Yoga has already entered the academic arena and it should be introduced among school going children. The Yoga has not seemingly attracted the attention of the Union Territory Administration what it deserved except for its ritualistic annual event or day.

The people of have limited options for practicing yoga, with few organizations offering classes or sessions. Furthermore, there may be a lack of awareness or interest among local people in Jammu regarding the benefits and relevance of yoga. It is necessary to open a well equipped Yoga Center within some green area of Jammu as a centre of excellence and to promote and fitness among the general public. Encouraging the practice of yoga could have a positive impact on individuals, communities, and society as a whole.
