The J&K government is all set to re-open Mughal Road linking Jammu region's hilly areas of Rajouri and Poonch to the Valley very soon, according to sources.

The road was closed for traffic after some people from the Valley tested positive for Covid-19 in April. That time positive cases in Kashmir were on the rise and it was feared that the traffic on the route — shorter link between border districts of Rajouri and Poonch and Shopian district in the Valley — would increase the risk of more infections.

Sources added that after mounting demand from traders and Apni Party of Altaf Bukhari the government has decided to open it. The orders to this effect would be open very soon.

Mughal Road was constructed in 2006 and as a viable alternative to Jammu-Srinagar highway.
