Legislation to eradicate polythene in J&K soon

Srinagar: and government will soon come up with a legislation to make use of polythene in the state a cognizable offence, Legislative Council was informed today.

Minister of Law and Justice Abdul Haq today informed the Council that the Government will come up with a legislation to make use of polythene a cognizable offence.

Replying to a question of S Charanjeet Singh, the Minister said, to eradicate the menace of polythene the Forest Ministry would soon come up with a legislation to make the use of polythene a cognizable offence.

He said his ministry is assisting the Forest Ministry in the same and would soon come up with the relevant legislation.

Haq said, under ‘My Village, My ' campaign, Rural Development Department has also launched a campaign against use of polythene, giving powers to block development officials to impose fine on people for using it.
