National Women Painters’ Camp organized

Tawi, Aug 26:  A three days Women Painters' Camp was inaugurated by Sh. Soujanaya Sharma, Secretary Kala Kendra & Director Local Bodies today at Kala Kendra, Jammu. Sh. Jang S. Verman, a well known artist & columnist on & Culture was the Guest of Honour on this occasion.

The camp has been organized by Jammu & Centre for Creative Arts (JKCCA), Jammu in collaboration with Kala Kendra, Jammu and Kokuyo Camlin Limited. The camp is being organized in the loving memory of Late (Smt.) Gobind Kaur, first woman sculptor of J&K state who contributed a lot in the field of art.

Ten female artists from various parts of the country are participating in this camp. The participating artists in the camp are Pratima Singh (Lucknow), Gaytri Verma (Hoshiarpur), Harsimrat Kaur (Ferozpur), Dr. Amita Khare (Gwalior), Mala Chawla (Amritsar), Bhawna Marwah (Meerut), Amrit Kaur, Anuradha Devi, Jatinder Kaur, Rekha Gupte, Harpreet Kour and Shivali Jamwal (Jammu). The camp is curated by Sh. O P Sharma, Director JKCCA. A large number of artists, writers and other intellectuals attended the inaugural function.

Soujanaya Sharma appreciated JKCCA for holding events like the camp being organized and added that art needs promotion by the public with its presence in such programmes. Speaking on the contribution of Gobind Kaur, he said that she had earned her name by winning All India and State level awards like by Indian Academy of Fine Arts, Amritsar, Faculty of Platic Arts, Benaras Hindu University, J&K State Cultural Academy, South Central Zone Cultural Centre Nagur and Maha Kala Kaushal Kala Parishad, Raipur etc.

Earlier Sh. O P Sharma, Director JKCCA apprised the audience present, about the contribution of JKCCA in promotion of Art & Culture in and outside the state. He said that JKCCA has organized art, culture and literary activities at state, national and international levels in the past.

Manjeet Kumat Katoch, representative of Kokuyo Camlin Limited represented Camlin, one of the collaborators of the camp.
