Chandigarh, Jul 1: Punjab Police on Wednesday busted a cross-border arms smuggling module with the arrest of two alleged smugglers in Amritsar and recovered seven sophisticated pistols along with 40 live cartridges from their possession.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were in contact with foreign-based smugglers through social media and were receiving consignments of weapons via cross-border routes for onward supply to criminal elements.
A case has been registered at Sultanwind Police Station in Amritsar, and further investigation is underway to trace the module’s network and identify other persons involved. (Agencies)
