Traders call off strike after meeting FM

The trader's bodies in have called off today's strike after they met Finance minister Haseeb Drabu on Friday afternoon.

A joint statement issued here by the trade bodies read, “a Joint delegation of apex trade bodies including KCC&I, KEA, KTMF, FCIK led by their Presidents Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, Mohammad Yasin Khan and Mohammad Ashraf Mir respectively had a detailed meeting with Government through Minister of Finance, Labour & , Dr Haseeb Drabu regarding the recent hike in taxes in the proposal for 2016-2017 and the Strike call given by all trade bodies of J&K against this. In the meeting with the Finance Minister the trade and industrial bodies were assured of fair and just consideration of all issues raised by them.”

In this context all the trade bodies including Chamber of Commerce have deferred the strike call of 4th June 2016 and there will be no strike on Saturday  the 4th of June 2016.

Prsident Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Mushtaq Ahmad Wani said that they have been assured of just consideration of their demands part of which have already been met. “We met Finance Minister in the afternoon and he assured us that our just demands shall be met.”

The strike was called in view of tax proposals in the budget presented in the assembly by Dr Drabu on May 30.
