    Revamp Policing

The distasteful incident wherein a traffic cop has been suspended for misbehaving with the members of lawyers’ fraternity in Jammu is a stark reminder of the fact that there is a need for improving the functioning of police especially when it comes to the issues of public dealing.

One can say that the present policing is in a serious need of behavioral training which refers to focusing on enhancing the behavior, attitude, and interpersonal skills to improve the law implementing agency’s performance when it come to the public dealing, because the common man is not a dreadful criminal who deserves harsh response rather he or she needs to be tackled in a respectful manner and nobility.

Such incidents of conflicts between cops and people remind that there is a need to teach the cops how to react, communicate, and interact in ways that align with desired outcomes, such as improving productivity, building better relationships, or fostering positive attitudes.

Looking at the incidents like the one reported from Janipur area where a traffic cop has been suspended for allegedly misbehaving with people, it becomes imperative to take steps implementing measures to ensure greater transparency, enhance community trust, and reduce the use of excessive force by the people who have been given authority by the government to ensure maintaining law and order. This approach can help in creating safer neighborhoods and reducing tensions between the police and citizens.

All said and done, there is a dire need for a comprehensive overhaul of policing methods, systems, and attitudes, ensuring that law enforcement is more effective, accountable, and aligned with modern societal needs because the government cannot and should not allow the men in Khaki to continue with the draconian behaviour with the people as was the case during the British rule, when India was a slave country and police brutality was the order of the day.

In the aforesaid case, one cannot deny the fact that the higher ups in the police have taken action because the affected party was part and parcel of legal fraternity because if the similar incident would have taken place with a common man, the situation would have been different as the mindset of many policemen in the region is still the same, which it was during pre-1947 era.
