New Delhi: Several Opposition MPs demonstrated outside Parliament on Tuesday, protesting the ongoing Adani issue with black ‘jholas’ (bags) featuring caricatures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and billionaire Gautam Adani. The bags bore the slogan “Modi Adani Bhai Bhai” and were prominently displayed by Congress leaders and MPs from other opposition parties, including the DMK, JMM, and Left.

The protest, held in front of the Makar Dwar steps, was the latest in a series of daily demonstrations by Congress ahead of the start of Parliament sessions. Opposition MPs raised slogans accusing Modi and Adani of collusion and reiterated their demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation into the matter.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, along with Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, led the protest. The MPs carried the black bags with the caricatures of Modi and Adani, calling for a probe into alleged corruption involving the billionaire industrialist.

Earlier in the day, Gandhi chaired a meeting of Congress MPs to discuss their position on various issues and their strategy for the ongoing Parliament session. The protest followed similar actions by opposition leaders the previous day, when some members of the INDIA bloc staged a mock ‘interview’ in Parliament, with Congress members donning masks of Modi and Adani to highlight their concerns.

On Monday, Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and opposition MPs raised slogans such as “Modi, Adani ek hain” (Modi and Adani are one) and “We want justice” while standing in front of Parliament’s Makar Dwar.

The protests over the Adani issue have been a recurring feature since the start of the winter session, with Congress and other opposition parties demanding a JPC probe following the indictment of Adani and other company officials in a US court. Congress claims that the indictment vindicates its call for a JPC inquiry into various alleged “scams” linked to the Adani Group.

Rahul Gandhi has also called for the immediate arrest of Adani. The Adani Group has repeatedly dismissed all allegations as “baseless.”
