Jammu Tawi, Aug 20 (UNI) The sleuths of the Jammu Cyber Police Station on Friday arrested one of the ‘most wanted’ online fraudster in a fraud case worth lakhs of Rupees from Patiala, Punjab.
The Cyber Cell spokesman here on Friday said that the ‘most wanted’ fraudster was involved in a Rs 34 Lakh online cyber fraud case. He was arrested from Guru Nanak Nagar, Patiala, Punjab.
He was identified as Sukhdeep Singh.
The spokesman said that on February 20, 2021, one complainant namely Inder Pal Singh of Talab Tillo, Jammu reported that he was duped by unknown fraudsters on the pretext of buying units of Canadian pension fund on the promise of good returns.
The complainant lost Rs 34 lakhs in multiple transactions from different banks, he said.
“During the course of investigation, the police succeeded in identifying the co-accused who had defrauded the complainant and in the month of June, another member of the gang, Daljit Kour, wife of Shingara Singh, resident of Sahnewal, Ludhiana was arrested in whose bank account Rs 24 lakhs were credited, while Rs 10 lakhs was credited in the account of Sukhdeep Singh,” said the spokesman.
Cyber Police Station, SP Naresh Singh said that after ascertaining the location of the accused, a team was deputed to apprehend him.
“The accused was arrested from Patiala and was brought to Cyber Police Station Jammu after completing all legal formalities,” said the SP.
Police are also searching for other fraudsters involved in the offence. Further sustained questioning of the arrested accused by the police is going on to ascertain the involvement of other accused in the case.
Mr Singh has appealed to the general public not to share bank OTP, UPI PIN etc and never get allured with cheap online offers floating on social media and other online platforms offering products with unjustified and cheaper price and returns.
