    Authorities have taken prompt measures to ensure the situation in Kathua village lacks spillover. While the police have registered a case and made arrests, senior minister and local lawmaker Lal Singh visited the belt, an official spokesman said.

    A government spokesman said the police initiated prompt action and registered an FIR No: 05 U/S 295 A/298A/120B of RPC in Police Station Rajbagh, Kathua and arrested four suspected persons in connection with an incident that took place at village Haria Chak in Tehsil Marheen of district Kathua.

    Quoting District Magistrate Kathua, Ramesh Kumar, the spokesman said further investigations have been taken up by the police in the case and peace has been restored in the area.

    Quoting police, the statement said that an incident of alleged sacrilegious act was reported at village Haria Chak resulting in sloganeering and stone pelting by two groups of people in which several persons were injured. “Sensing trouble police resorted to baton-charging and tear-smoke shelling to control the situation,” it said.

    The statement said to pacify the agitators, DC Kathua, DIG Police Jammu-Kathua-Samba range Ashkoor Wani and SSP Kathua visited the spot and interacted with the representatives of both the communities and gave them a patient hearing and assured them of fair investigation with strict legal action against the accused.

    “Civil and police administration took adequate precautionary measures and imposed section 144 Cr PC at village Haria Chak at Hiranagar sub division,” it said.

    In another statement, the government said state's Forest minister Choudhary Lal Singh visited Harya Chak to take stock of the situation in the area.

    The Minister appealed the general public to maintain calm and harmony.  He said that some disruptive elements are hell bent upon derailing the peaceful atmosphere of the State, especially in Jammu region. “These elements have made several detestable attempts in the past as well to trigger communal passions in the region,” he said and added that those involved in such criminal activities won't be spared.

    While appealing all sections of society to stay united to foil the nefarious designs of such elements, the Minister said that they shouldn't lose tempers in these crucial times.

    “We all have to keep the situation under control and defeat the nefarious  designs by vested interests who want to see the State in flames,”, he said.

    Meanwhile  Sub Divisional Magistrate Hiranagar, Sohan Lal has imposed section 144 of Cr PC in the Hiranagar sub-division.

    The move came in the wake of apprehension that some miscreants/ anti-social elements may try to disturb the peace and tranquility in the Sub Division which may disturb the safety and security of the people at large.

    The order puts restrictions on assembly of four or more persons in the Sub Division who intend to hold protests and raising slogans.
