12 JK Cops dismissed for surrendering weapons to militants

Date:

Tawi, October 22, (KIP)-Authorities in beleaguered Jammu and
has laid off up to a dozen of policemen, who they believe hadn't
displayed any counteraction when gunmen clutched at their service
weapons during ongoing unrest.

A well informed source said the department is in the process of
finalizing action against other policemen facing the similar charges.
An assortment of over 80 weapons, of different made and caliber, were
snatched from isolated posts, minority KP shelter pickets and from the
personnel providing security to protected persons including
politicians.

Barring these aberrations, the sources recounted past contributions
and said the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) had played a key role in
maintaining peace and tranquility in the state despite adverse
situations including 2005 earthquake, 2008 Amarnath land row, 2010
unrest over alleged fake encounter and 2014 floods in the valley
besides the current unrest-2016.

48 security personnel including 23 policemen , 11 Central Reserve
Police Force (CRPF), 10 Border Security Force (BSF) and two each from
Indo Tibetian Border Police (ITBP) and Special Services Bureau (SSB)
have attained martyrdom while fighting terrorists in the north
Himalayan state of Jammu and Kashmir between September 2015 and August
this year, the sources added.

Two policemen were martyred and 6,500 security force personnel
sustained injuries due to stone pelting in over past three months of
turbulence in Kashmir following separatist sponsored strike,
restrictions and during defiance of official curfews, the sources
said, adding 86 civilians lost their lives and over 9,989 others got
wounded in security forces retaliatory action during the same period.

They said 978 JKP personnel were among 5211 security men who
sacrificed their lives while fighting against terrorists since 1989 in
Jammu and Kashmir.
