USA Stun Two-Time Champions Pakistan in Super Over Thriller to Grab T20 World Cup Top Spot

In what was a nail-biting thriller, the underdog USA team pulled off a stunning victory against two-time champions Pakistan in a Group A clash of the ongoing T20 Cup in Texas yesterday. Chasing 160 to win, the USA batsmen kept their nerves in a pressure cooker situation to level the scores and take the match into a Super Over decider.

Pakistan were off to a poor start after being sent in to bat, losing three wickets with just 26 runs on board in the powerplay overs. However, a 72-run stand between captain Babar Azam (44) and Shadab Khan (40) helped them post a competitive total of 159/7.

USA's chase got off to a slow start as well but Monank Patel's gritty 56 kept them in the hunt. Needing 12 off the final over, the experienced Nitish Kumar had ice in his veins as he clobbered a match-winning boundary on the last ball to tie the scores.

In the Super Over, Mohammad Amir, who was given the ball by Pakistan, struggled with his line and length under pressure. The experienced USA pacer Saurabh Netravalkar, in contrast, bowled with pinpoint accuracy and conceded just 14 runs while claiming a vital wicket. This handed the USA a thrilling five-run win in a nail-biting finish.

The result sees USA notch their second win in as many matches to firmly put them in the driver's seat of Group A. In contrast, the defeat has thrown Pakistan's campaign off track, with a tough match against rivals up next. In dramatic fashion, the USA have announced themselves as serious contenders, dealing a huge upset to derail Pakistan's title defense.
