    Date:

As Jammu and (J&K) has long been recognized for its picturesque landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and historical significance, it has become imperative to exploit its tourism potential fully to improve the socio-economic condition of the people and boost the , which largely depends on the tourism sector.

There is no doubt in saying that traditional tourist destinations like Srinagar, Gulmarg, Patnitop, Sonmarg and Pahalgam attract a substantial number of visitors but there is a pressing need to develop non-conventional tourism destinations in the Union Territory including Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Sanasar, etc as lack of facilities usually play a spoilsport in promoting tourism in these places loaded with immense natural beauty. It is necessary that to cater to the evolving needs of modern tourists and to diversify tourism in the region, the government should consider creating state-of-the- edifices in these less-explored areas.

Expanding tourism to non-conventional destinations can spur economic growth by creating job opportunities and promoting local businesses. This can lead to a more equitable distribution of tourism revenue across the region. It is also a fact that by developing alternative tourist spots, the pressure on heavily visited areas can be lessened. This can help in preserving the natural and infrastructure of traditional destinations. Promoting tourism in these new areas can aid in preserving and showcasing local traditions, crafts, and lifestyles. Developing lesser-known areas can encourage sustainable tourism practices. It provides an opportunity to implement eco-friendly infrastructure and promote responsible tourism right from the outset.

It is also advisable that the edifice created at new tourist destinations should feature contemporary amenities, including comfortable accommodation, adventure avenues, and recreational areas. Improved connectivity is also crucial for the success of non-conventional tourist spots.

The government should invest in building better roads, enhancing public transportation, and ensuring seamless internet and mobile connectivity. This strategic initiative will not only boost the local economy but also preserve the cultural and natural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir, making it a more attractive and sustainable destination for tourists coming from different parts of the country and abroad.
