Two youth killed in Shopian, Govt orders magisterial probe

Two youth were Saturday killed after government forces opened fire on protesters in Shopian district on Saturday while the government ordered magisterial probe into the killing of a youth.

The protesters pelted stones on a security force convoy passing through Ganovpora village in Shopian district, they said.

The security forces allegedly fired few rounds to chase away the protesters in which several persons were injured, the officials said.

Two of the injured persons, identified as Javaid Ahmad Bhat and Suhail Javid Lone, succumbed to injuries, they said.

The officials said another youth was rushed to a hospital in Srinagar in a critical condition for specialised treatment.

The situation in Ganovpora and adjoining areas is tense following the killing of the youths, they added.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Shopian, Shri Ram Ambedkar, Aijaz Rasheed confirmed the killing of two civilian.

He identified the two civilians as Javiad Ahmad Bhat of Narpora and Sahil Ahmad Lone of Ganowpora Shopian.

Officials informed that the youth identified as Javaid Ahmad Bhat and Sahil Ahmad Lone were killed while two others sustained injuries during the clashes in Ganowpora village of 's Shopian district today.

Bhat as per the sources was shifted to the hospital for treatment. However, the hospital sources informed that he succumbed to his injuries.

Lone who was also shifted to the hospital as per the officials later succumbed to his injuries as well.

Meanwhile, the government has ordered magisterial probe into the killing of a youth in Shopian.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan informed that the magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the killing of a Shopian youth.

Khan informed that Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Muhammad Aijaz has been appointed as the inquiry officer to ascertain the facts about the death of a youth.

He said that DC has been directed to submit the report within 15 days.
