Rajouri, Aug 10: A teenage boy drowned to death while taking a bath in Jhori Nallah in Dandote village of Rajouri district on Wednesday evening, officials said here.
An official said that the boy identified as Umar Farooq (17) son of Mohammad Farooq of Gabbar village was returning from school at around 3:30 when he decided to take a bath in Jhori Nallah near Hayan bridge.
He said that the boy drowned while taking a bath in the Nallah and soon after the incident a rescue operation was launched to retrieve his body.
He added that his body was later retrieved from the water body at around 7:15 pm in the evening.
The official said that body of the teenager is at PHC Kotranka and will be handed over to family members after medico-legal formalities.
In another incident, a 14-year-old boy drowned in river Jhelum in Nawakadal area of Srinagar on Wednesday evening, officials said here.
An official said that Momin Ahmad of Dal Hassanyar drowned in river Jhelum while taking a bath.
They said that soon after the incident a rescue operation was launched by River Police Srinagar to retrieve the body.
